If you want to keep your garage organized, one of the best things you can do is purchase wall mounted plastic storage bins and install them. Wall mounted plastic storage boxes keep hardware, gardening tools, and other objects off the ground. This in turn frees up space in your garage and makes it easy to walk around and find what you need. If you work on DIY projects in your garage, you will have a lot more room, and you will probably have an easier time being productive.
How do you actually hang a wall mount plastic storage cabinet though? The following instructions will help you figure out what to do if you want to mount plastic bins without a panel rack. This may be ideal if you do not have a huge quantity of bins to mount, and you already have some on hand that you would like to use.
1. First, select the right bins. You want them to be sturdy plastic bins. They can be stackable, but it isn’t a must. Look for a reinforced upper rim on the edge. You are going to be suspending them on chain rails, so they need to be able to stand up to the hanging weight. Try to pick bins that are a consistent size and shape (or perhaps a number of bins in several different sizes).
2. Next, you will need to hang the chain rails. Go with light to medium-duty chains. Use U-bolts or eye-hooks to fasten them to the walls.
3. Next, drill holes through the bins unless they come ready for mounting. Feed rope through the holes and then create non-slip loops which you can attach to S-hooks on the chains. You may even skip the chains and just use the S-hooks if you like. You can put this setup together for plastic bins with lids or without them.
4.Come up with an organizational system for your garage bin storage, and create helpful labels for the contents of your bins. The more logical the system, the easier it will be to use. Make sure you always put items back where they belong immediately after you are done using them, so that they do not simply pile up on the floor again. Chalkboard paint is a great idea for the labels, since you can erase them and change them later.
These steps are simply for affixing existing plastic storage bins to your garage walls. There are other options though if you are willing to spend a little extra for a specialized supply. For example, you can purchase mountable storage bins that are already attached to panels. These panel racks can be mounted to walls, tables, workbenches, and more. You may be surprised how affordable some of these panel rack with bins systems actually are. And as you can see, they can save you some time and hassle. If you have a lot of stuff to store in your garage or workshop, it is definitely something to think about!
