Family Command Center Organization Tips
A family command center is one of the most useful things you can create in your home to stay organized! A family organization center allows you to consolidate tasks, paperwork, incoming and outgoing mail, and more. If you are looking for family command center ideas, you are in the right place. These tips will help you to make a family command center that is perfect for your household.
• Choose an efficient location. The best place is often close to the door, and should also be a room that people regularly pass through. For this reason, an entryway or the kitchen are both great choices. If you pick a room which isn’t really a natural location in the house to visit, the command center can be overlooked and go unused.
• Figure out the function for the command center. There are dozens of uses for one. Which uses you decide on should be based on your needs. If you already have another system set up for mail for example, you might not want to use the command center for mail. What you decide to use the command center for will determine what kinds of supplies you need: calendars, plastic bins for organizing, mountable plastic boxes, and so on. Deciding on the purpose in advance will help you get the supplies you actually require and avoid purchasing supplies you are not going to make use of.
• Make sure that everyone in the household understands the purpose of the family command center and knows how to use it. You may even want to ask for direct input while you are planning the command center. Others in your household may not find your ideas intuitive, or may have some suggestions that you never considered. You want the command center to be as easy to use as possible. That way everyone actually wants to use it, and gets used to the new system quickly.
• Put the “fun” back in “functional.” Don’t just think about efficiency when you are setting up your command center. The more you personalize the command center, the more it will reflect your family’s uniqueness. Decorate the command center. Make it pretty. Post family photos and artwork by your children. Put up a whiteboard for fun impromptu drawings. Make people in your home want to use the command center.
If you do a great job setting up your family command center, it should be relatively easy to replace old habits with new ones. The command center should make it naturally conducive to switch over from whatever you used to do. Know though that you will probably still need to remind yourself and others periodically about it for the first few weeks. After that, though, it will probably be relatively easy to remember to use, because it makes everything so much easier to manage! If you still are having trouble sticking to your system, it may be because it still needs a few tweaks. Don’t give up. You will eventually get it down.
