Tired of opening your closet door and having half your stuff tumble out on you? Do you keep the doors of your closet closed at all times just so you don’t have to look in at what has turned into a pigsty? If so, it is time to take everything out of your closet, clean up, and start over! Here are some closet makeover ideas to get you back to loving your wardrobe.

1. First, take everything out! Vacuum your closet floor! Clean the shelves (if you have them), get the dust off the bar, and wipe down your walls. Marvel at how much space you actually have in your closet when it’s empty. Odds are you can find a much more efficient way to use it.

2. Take stock of how you organize your space as you consider closet organizer ideas. Could you benefit from some more bars and shelves? If so, consider investing in a closet organizer system. You can purchase full systems which are customizable to your space and needs. Just adding an extra bar can go a long ways toward maximizing your space.

3. Declutter your closet. Donate things you no longer wear, and get seasonal clothing, accessories, blankets, and supplies and store them somewhere else, like a hall closet or an attic.

4. Purchase some plastic bins for clothes and accessories. These bins can help you to keep all the little odds and ends in your closet organized and easy to access. These are particularly great for hair clips, makeup, and beauty supplies. But you can also use them for socks and underwear and even for folded shirts.

5. Consider purchasing a pegboard. You may think of a pegboard as a garage or tool shed supply, but it actually is a great addition to your closet! It can hold belts, scarves, jewelry, and more! You can also consider pegging it to the inside of the closet door (instead of the closet wall), but if you do, make sure you only hang items that aren’t liable to fall off.

6. Buy specialized organizers for your closet. A shoe organizer which you hang inside your closet door is an excellent choice for clearing up space on your closet floor, and it is also perfect for storing a lot of other stuff in your closet too—not just shoes! Drawer dividers are also a great purchase for socks and underwear.

A closet makeover is a huge project, especially if you have a ton of stuff clogging the works right now. But once you clean and organize your closet, you will have so much more space free, and it will look and feel so much neater! Your bedroom is meant to be a place where you can relax and feel comfortable, and it’s hard to do that when you feel like you are entrenched in chaos. With a clean closet, you will be able to finally relax in a serene, organized, beautiful bedroom—even if you leave the closet doors wide open!
