If your difficulty isn’t finding home organizing tips and ideas but putting your plans into action and actually getting organized around the house, you’re far from alone. A lot of people struggle with follow-through.

There are a lot of reasons why follow-through is so hard, but one primary reason is simply that we are motivated by immediate gratification, and many organizing projects are long-term endeavors with no immediate payoff.

But there is no reason you cannot set up rewards for yourself! Organizing is hard work, and if you actually have the discipline to take regular steps toward your goals, you should do something nice for yourself. Or let me put it like this—you are far more likely to actually take those steps if you know that you’ll be rewarding yourself for doing it.

For some people, it is effortless to come up with self-reward ideas. But I notice this is something folks search for, so maybe you could use a little inspiration. Here are some ideas which are fun and easy and shouldn’t break the bank:

• Buy yourself an inexpensive but tasty treat you normally wouldn’t from the grocery store.
• Purchase an inexpensive subscription to an online service.
• Go for a walk or a drive.
• Give yourself a haircut or dye your hair a new color.
• Set aside a few hours on your next day off to do something relaxing and fun.
• Allow yourself to skip or put off another task.
• Get a manicure, pedicure, facial or massage.
• If there is something you enjoy collecting, allow yourself to purchase a new item to add to that collection.
• If there is something special you’ve been eyeing on Etsy or Pinterest, buy it for yourself.
• Purchase some new makeup or perfume or some other product which will last you a long time.
• Buy a video game, movie or TV show.
• Call a friend or family member you haven’t caught up with in a long time.
• Take a class or buy yourself some hobby supplies and try a new activity that you have always been interested in.
• Take a trip to your local thrift store and get yourself something nice and inexpensive.
• Do some home decorating. One of the best things about getting decluttered and organized is that you can finally personalize your space.
• Go do something cool in your local area which you’ve always meant to do but have never actually gotten around to (like taking a tour or so on).
• If you get paid time off of work, take a day off but do not use it for housework or errands. Just use it to relax and do whatever you want.

All of these ideas are easy and provide you with a little instant gratification while you are decluttering and organizing your home or work space. If you reward yourself once a week or so for meeting your goals in some way, you probably will find yourself making fast progress!
