How often do you take the time to do some under kitchen sink organization? This is an area of the kitchen which is easy to neglect, because odds are you don’t even think about it most of the time. You just grab what you need and put it back. Only when you can’t find something or you run out of room are you likely to notice the mess down there. Here are a few kitchen sink organization tips that can help you get the most out of that space under your sink.

• One of the best kitchen sink organization ideas is simply to begin by pulling everything out of your kitchen sink. That way you will know exactly what you’re storing down there! I don’t know about you, but every time I do this, I discover old cleaning products I didn’t even know about. Some are products I tried and never used again that are just taking up space and can be thrown away. This will instantly free up some space. Others are things I genuinely need, and didn’t even realize I had!

• Next you should ask yourself, “How many of these cleaning products do I really need?” Figure out if you can eliminate some of them. You probably only need several types of cleaners, especially if you buy a lot of multi-use products.

• See whether any of your cleaning products can be moved. Some of them may make more sense to store in your bathroom.

• Make use of shelves and bins. If you don’t have enough shelves under your sink (or any, which is quite common), consider picking some up. You may be able to find small stackable shelves to use under your sink, or else, stackable plastic storage bins. You may find it helpful to have some bins which you can close and pile on top of each other, and others which are simply left open so that you can quickly reach in and grab what you need without thinking about it.

• Hang shelving on your doors if you have room. This is a great way to store sponges and other supplies which don’t need as much space, but are still using up room on the floor of your kitchen sink cabinet. They will also be handier and easier to reach when you store them this way.

In a lot of kitchens, especially small kitchens, the space underneath the kitchen sink is quite tiny and cramped, and you can quickly run out of room. But the smaller your kitchen is, the more important it is that you make the best use of this little space! When you have a half hour free in the next couple of weeks, think about pulling everything out of your kitchen sink storage area and taking stock of what you really need and don’t need. Pick up some plastic bins, and get that area organized. You will probably find yourself with extra space you didn’t know you had!
