Have a lot of disorganized shoes cluttering your floor? Whether you are searching for ideas for organizing shoes in a small closet or ideas for organizing shoes by the door, there are a number of easy storage solutions which are both versatile and affordable. Here are some of the best ways to organize shoes.
1. Install a shelf for your shoes in your closet.
One of the most straightforward solutions is simply to purchase or build a shelf specifically made for shoes and install it directly inside your closet or in your mudroom. While this is not a particularly clever or creative approach, it does get your shoes off the floor, and makes them easy to grab when you’re ready to head out the door.
2. Build a shoe storage system out of PVC pipes.
An easy and cheap way to build a DIY shoe organizer is out of pieces of PVC pipe. To do this, you will need to cut a pipe into a number of equal-sized, small sections which are the right size for storing shoes.
Note that you may not need to do this on your own. Sometimes hardware stores are willing to take care of it when you make your purchase. You cannot always rely on this however, so make sure that you have a plan B.
Once you have the pieces cut, you may want to take some time to sand down their edges. After that, you simply need to glue them together using PVC glue to create a shelf. What is nice about this method is that you can make your shelf as large or small as you want, and you can always add more shoe storage “units” later. You can also customize the pipes by decorating them before you glue them.
3. Get a wire grid for heels.
Another easy method specifically for storing high heels is to purchase some wire gridwall panels like those which are used in retail settings. Just prop such a panel against a free wall inside your closet, and you can hook your heels into the grid spaces. This system makes it extremely easy to rearrange your shoes as you add or remove pairs from your collection.
4. Use plastic bins or drawers.
Finally, one more simple and economical way to store your shoes off your closet floor is to purchase some plastic storage bins for closets. Be sure to go with the clear bins so that you can see your shoes. Just stack them up and put your shoes inside. Plastic bin drawers arguably work even better since they allow for easier access.
You have quite a few ideas now for cleaning up the shoe clutter on your floor and organizing your footwear in style! All of these ideas are affordable and easy to implement. Whether you purchase a shelf or gridwall, use a set of plastic bins, or you decide to create a set of DIY cubbies using PVC pipe pieces, you should achieve a pleasing result.
