Now that you’ve cleared off the surface of your desk, you can put useful items which you always need within reach on that clear surface such as your phone, your card file, and a small box with paperclips, pencils and other office essentials in it. Keep the rest of your work area clear however—a little space around you can bring some space into your thoughts and make it easier to work.
3. Make your office filing system easy to understand and use. Some filing systems are so complex or counterintuitive that they actually make it harder to find things. Come up with a simple, color-coded filing system which makes sense both to you and to other workers in your office. Don’t overload your filing drawers or they will be difficult to open and close. If you need more filing cabinets, simply buy them. If you have old documentation you no longer need, consider putting it in storage containers.
