One of the hardest aspects of keeping a household in order is cleaning and organizing. But what’s arguably just as difficult is scheduling it and putting together lists of organization supplies for home that you need to buy to get your chores accomplished. That’s why a cleaning binder is a really great idea! A cleaning binder helps you to plan your cleaning and organizing tasks months in advance and figure out exactly how many plastic storage containers and other organizational supplies you need to buy.

To make a household cleaning binder, simply start out with a three-ring binder. Get dividers for the binder and label them according to the months of the year. You might also add tabs for Special Projects, Repairs, and Supplies. You can decorate your binder to make it more personalized and fun to use. Look online and you will find a lot of cute, creative ideas, and even free printable worksheets to make it easy. In the very front of your binder, you should keep a Daily Cleaning Schedule as a quick reference which helps you to stay tidy each week.

Next, go through each month and add in cleaning and organizing tasks you are going to schedule for that month. For example, you could clean and organize your kitchen in February. In April or May you could do spring cleaning and clean out your attic and hall closets. In July you could organize your mudroom, and so on. Try to plan tasks which are logical for each month and which will help you keep up with your other responsibilities throughout the year. Cleaning the mudroom in late summer makes sense, because organizing it will help you to keep your house neat and tidy in fall when the kids go back to school. That’s just one example.

In the back, you can have a tab for Supplies, where you make lists of everything you need to purchase for each area of your household. Once you get your lists ready, you can even sort them again according to month. That way you have ready-made shopping lists ready for your home organization supplies which you can take to the store at the beginning of each month. These lists will keep you from buying more than you need, but will also help ensure that you do not miss anything important! Having them ready will make it easier to convince yourself to stick with the tasks you have planned and not dilly-dally.

Cleaning and organizing your home can actually be a lot of fun, and you can get a real sense of accomplishment from keeping up with your chores. Part of keeping organization fun and not a hassle is doing advance planning. With a household binder for cleaning and organizing, you can take care of the hard, complicated work of planning well in advance. That way every year when it comes time to do some organizing, you can get right to it, and have a fun, efficient time tidying up your household!
