Did you just head back to college for the spring semester? If so, this is a great time to check out some dorm room organization tips. Oftentimes when you get back from winter break, you bring a lot of stuff with you from home, which means your dorm room can easily turn into a mess. Here are some helpful dorm room organizing ideas to help you get things back in order.
• Wall hooks. Wall hooks are very versatile and work great for a lot more than just hanging up coats and bags. You can hang all kinds of items for quick access; these hooks work great for jewelry or watches that you wear often.
• Pocket wall organizer for study supplies. Another really cool idea is to get one of those wall organizers with pockets for shoes. Use the hooks to put it on your wall, and then put plastic cups inside of the pockets. Why? Because you can then put pens, markers, pencils, and similar supplies in the cups and organize them neatly. This is a wonderful way to quickly and easily de-clutter your work area and keep all the supplies you need effortlessly on hand.
• Plastic storage bins. Clear plastic bins remain some of the most effective organizational supplies for the dorm room setting. One of the best things you can do is raise your bed up off the ground (if your room has that kind of bed) and utilize the storage area beneath your bed. The more space you can free up, the better. I recommend though that you stick with medium plastic bins instead of larger bins. While large bins may seem like they would keep things simple, you will regret it when it comes time to carry the bins back to your car at the end of the year. It is much easier carrying medium-size plastic bins back and forth each semester than it is to lug large and unwieldy bins.
• Label cords. As a college student, you probably have a lot of technology in your room. All those computer cords and peripheral cords and cords to charge your mobile devices can easily get mixed up, and next year you may have a hard time getting them set up. Why not make it easy on yourself? Make it your project this semester to label all of your cords with washi tape. That way next year you will have a much easier time getting set up in your dorm room. Also look for something you can use to tie your cords together and get them out of the way. Your room will look and feel so much neater.
Those are just a few suggestions for organizing your dorm room this spring. Use your creativity and you will probably come up with more great ideas. When your dorm room is organized, you will have an easier time concentrating and your grades may improve. You will also find it a more pleasant and relaxing place to be!
