The holiday season is already in full swing, but it’s never too late to get organized. Doing so now will make your job a lot easier when it comes to clean-up time after the turn of the new year. Here are some organizational tasks to consider tackling before the year’s end.
• Organize your kitchen. If you already organized your kitchen for Thanksgiving, fantastic! If not, wouldn’t it be nice if your Christmas meal is much easier to prepare? You can make it happen by organizing your kitchen now. This is one of the best holiday organizing tips. It’s time to clean out those cabinets, re-organize your pantry with plastic kitchen containers, and find your favorite holiday recipes!
• Organize your gift-wrapping station. Hopefully you’ll have this done before Black Friday, but if not, we recommend doing it as soon as possible! The same clear plastic bins which helped you organize in the kitchens are also perfect for storing gift wrap scraps, bows, ribbons, gift tags, and more. The more organized this area is, the faster you’ll be able to get gifts wrapped, and the easier it will be to hide all the presents.
• Create a mailing station. If you don’t already have a mailing station in your entryway, kitchen, mudroom, or another convenient time of your house, this is the best time of year to get on that! A couple of large plastic bins for ingoing and outgoing mail and another for packing tape, envelopes, and more can really facilitate getting out your holiday mail! This makes it easy for the whole family.
• Organize holiday décor. Are your ornaments, lights, and other holiday decorations a mess every year? This year, think about putting together a better organizational system. When it comes time to put everything away after Christmas, you can make everything nice and neat for next year. While it may feel like extra work, next year you will feel a lot better when you go to unpack your ornaments again.
• Plan holiday menus and parties. Organizing your time is just as important as organizing your space. There is no time of the year when this is truer than over the holidays. Start putting together schedules now. Figure out everything you need to buy for your parties and meals, and start stocking up on seasonal ingredients. The more you plan, the less crazy things will be when all your friends and relatives come over.
The holidays are one of the busiest times of the year, and the thought of organizing now may seem like too much. But look at it this way; it’s on your mind now, and you probably won’t want to be thinking about it come next spring (you’ll be doing spring cleaning then!). So this really is the best time to get things ready. You’ll probably end up saving time this year, even though it doesn’t feel like it, and you will definitely save lots of time next year by getting organized now.
