If you are going to be moving sometime soon, you are probably going to end up needing to pick up a lot of containers for packing all of your stuff. These may include cardboard boxes, plastic storage bins, and more. After you are all set up in your new place, what do you do with these containers? The cardboard boxes you likely collapse and throw away. But what can you do to repurpose plastic bins for moving?

• Use the plastic moving crates for storage in your home. The first thing you can consider is continuing to use the plastic bins in your new house or apartment for storage. Plastic bins can be decorated to fit with your décor, and function as a convenient and versatile storage solution. What is also nice is that if you move again, you can just put them in your car or moving truck and take them to your next destination without any extra work.

• Make use of the plastic bins in your storage unit. If you have a storage unit where you are keeping some of your possessions, your plastic totes can work well there too. They will do a great job protecting your possessions against moisture and pests (ants and other intruders can be a real problem in storage units).

• Make furniture out of your plastic bins. When you move to a new house or apartment, you may not have all the furniture you need when you are starting out. If that is the case, you can sometimes construct temporary furniture out of your plastic bins just by stacking them up. I have actually done this; I used a desk made out of plastic bins for the better part of a year once. It wasn’t ideal, but it was a quick fix during a temporary housing situation.

• Use your plastic bins in crafting, DIY or gardening projects. There are so many different ways you can use plastic storage totes! Check out our blog archives for ideas. Those who enjoy getting creative will discover that there are hours of fun to be had upgrading, decorating, or repurposing plastic bins.

• Donate or gift plastic bins you do not need. Plastic moving boxes and bins are one of those supplies which pretty much anyone can use at some point or other. If you have not found a use for your plastic bins after you are done moving, check with family members and friends. There is a good chance that one or more of the people you know would be able to put those plastic containers to good use right away.

There really are a lot of ways you can make use of plastic moving bins even after you have finished relocating. In that sense, they are far more useful and provide far more in the way of long-term value than cardboard boxes. So if you are thinking about getting cardboard boxes for your next move, reconsider. Plastic bins may be a better option.
