Maybe you’ve finally decided to tackle the adventure of organizing your home. But how to start organizing your house? That’s a tough question. You may wonder whether you should start doing it all at once, or just take on one room at a time, and if so, which room to start with.
There are many ways to organize a home, and there is really no right answer here, since the best answer is to use a method which fits your personality and schedule. Generally, though, most people are going to have the best results taking on a small area in a small room and then moving onto another small area, and so on. That is why this is one of the best organizing tips.
What order should you go in? A lot of people start out with their storage spaces (cabinets, closets, etc.), and then push onto other areas. Storage spaces could also include the garage or attic. Many people then proceed to public areas like the kitchen and living room, since these receive the most traffic. These are the parts of your house that guests normally see. You might then proceed to private spaces like the home office and bedroom.
That is just one approach, however. You might prefer to tackle private areas before public ones, because you can control those environments. You won’t have to worry about anyone messing up your system. That way you can start accumulating victories. Each time you manage to get an area in a room organized, you will feel triumphant, and that will help you find the motivation to keep going. There are many steps to organizing your home, and you will need to gear yourself up for each!
Or you could use a more subjective approach to decide what order to organize in. You might pick an area that you find particularly dissatisfying, or one that you know would be useful to have neat and tidy, like your desk in your home office. Or you could pick a task which you think will be fun, like organizing your child’s playroom. While all organization calls for creativity, organizing a playroom or child’s bedroom gives you an excuse to go wild with your imagination and have fun. You can create an organizational solution that is both practical and pretty and playful.
No matter how you decide to go about it, the most important thing is that you choose something you can commit to. It is much easier to commit to one area at a time than it is to commit to cleaning and organizing your entire house, so try to look at what you are doing now rather than worrying about the future. This will keep you focused and will stop you from getting discouraged. With each small accomplishment, you will be taking another step in the right direction. You will probably be amazed at the transformation once you have tackled home organization for a few months. You’ll feel like you are only making small changes, but you will be stunned at how they all add up!
