• Don’t just use a bunch of parallel aisles. While a simple grid of parallel aisles might seem easy, it is also boring and mind-numbing. Customers will have a hard time seeing anything on your shelves clearly if they see your entire store as one homogenous mass. Try setting some displays at angles, adding in breaks and areas of open space, and U-shaped or round display areas to mix things up. Send a message to your customers that each of your display areas has a unique experience to offer them, and that the products you are selling are equally engaging. Use different types of retail display racks and cases.
When you are setting up your sales floor, think about stores you have visited in the past, and which ones were memorable, and which were not. What stores do you typically find dullest to shop in, and which ones feel comfortable, inviting, and exciting? You will doubtless notice some patterns in the layouts of both the stores you love and the stores you hate. Use the knowledge you have gained from experience to make the layout of your own shop even better. Experiment with different display angles and ideas and keep track of your sales. Regular innovations will keep customers interested and coming back.
