• By material. This is particularly important if you work with a lot of precious gemstones and want to be able to accurately tell customers what each of your creations contains later. It can be easy to mix up similar looking materials. Is that blue stone aventurine or turquoise? Is that white stone agate or quartz? By placing your supplies in specific containers and labeling them according to material when you first acquire them, you can keep from confusing them later. That way if a client requests something specific for a commission you can also quickly and effortlessly see if you have the material in question in stock or not.

• By color. This is one of the most powerful craft supply organization ideas you can use. Organizing by color allows you to place beads together which fall within the same general spectrum. That way when you get ready to start on a new piece, instead of searching through all your supplies to find matching colors, you can immediately turn to the container where you have placed all of the materials which fall within a given color range. Then you can spend more time looking for complementary colors which you can coordinate instead of just trying to pull together all orange supplies, all blue supplies, or so on.
