It’s summer time and the weather is warm in many places. That not only makes this the perfect time of year for cleaning house, but also for tackling outdoor storage and organization tasks you may have been putting off over the winter. It’s time to get out and organize your garage, and also take some time to organize your garden shed or tool shed. A neat and organized tool shed or garden shed helps to cut time off of gardening and home repair tasks. You doubtless have some projects planned for the summer. Now is the time to starting getting your shed ready for your projects! Here are some tool shed organization ideas:
• Wall systems. A wall organizer system for your garage is a great way to get your tools off the floor and out of the way, but also keep them in clear view and easily accessible. We have a number of wall organization systems including louvered panels and Q-peg storage. These systems are perfect for storing stack and hang bins and also for hanging your tools individually. A wall system is ideal if you have unusually shaped tools or tools which are too large and unwieldy to put in a drawer.
• Large plastic storage containers. These are great for many different purposes. You can use them to store additional tools, or to store birdseed, soil, fertilizer, and similar supplies. Both open and closed bins can be useful in the shed. Plastic bins can not only help you to consolidate and organize, but also to keep items from getting mixed together, and they can greatly reduce the appearance of clutter. When your tool shed looks more organized, it is easier to stay focused on your projects.
• Standard shelving. Never underestimate the value of standard, basic wood shelves in your tool shed. Always remember to store really heavy or bulky items on the lowest shelves, or even on the floor. Keep smaller and lighter items near the top, and keep items you use regularly accessible at mid-height. Tool cabinets are also incredibly useful, so if you do not have one, look into getting one. Alternately, chrome wire shelving and plastic stack and hang bins can work great for storing small tools and parts and keeping them readily accessible.
It can be tough to get started with a major organizational chore like organizing your tool or garden shed, but this really is the perfect time of year to do it. It’s not too cold, but it isn’t blazing hot yet, either. In a couple months, the prospect may seem even more daunting. Once you see how much space you are able to clear up, you will be delighted. You will have more room to work, and you may also have additional storage space for new tools. Take advantage of the temperature, pleasant spring weather, and get your tool or garden shed organized. Then you’ll be ready to start gardening and pruning and sprucing up your lawn!
