Trying to organize socks and underwear in your closet can be quite a challenge! In fact, it can be one of the most difficult chores involved with sorting out the closet, and that is despite the fact that it only encompasses a small area in terms of actual space. Socks, like underwear, are notoriously hard to corral, and love to get all mixed together, making it impossible to find what you need when you are getting dressed each day. So what can you do about it? Here are some clever ideas for how to store stocks in a closet.
1. Use PVC pipes for socks.
If you are looking for a solution which takes you away from standard methods of organizing, you can try organizing your socks using PVC pipes. Doing this is really easy; you just get a bunch of small PVC pipes which are cut to fit inside your drawer and stuff a pair of socks or tights into each of them.
This method definitely clears up your clutter, and the resulting look inside your drawer is very tidy and appealing to the eye.
Still, it has a very significant drawback, and that is that it is not a very efficient way to use the limited space you have. Because the pipes are rounded, there are going to be gaps between each of them. That is a lot of space which could be storing socks, but is doing nothing with the PVC setup. And that is why the next idea is ultimately a better one.
2. Plastic totes with dividers make an even better alternative.
You may be thinking about purchasing sock drawer dividers which are made out of cloth. That is not a bad solution, but it still is not the best since the cloth dividers are flimsy and can easily be crushed by all your socks (if you have a lot of them).
This is why you should instead invest in a plastic drawer organizer. This can be something as simple and basic as a plastic bin with dividers which fits in your drawer. This is a sturdy solution which makes use of all of the space in your sock drawer.
3. Fold your socks differently.
Finally, one more thing you may not be aware of is that you could be folding your socks the wrong way in the first place.
In fact, many people do not fold their socks at all. They roll them together into little balls. This is not very space-efficient, since it creates more objects with rounded edges.
Instead, fold your socks over each other so that they form little flat rectangles. These take up a lot less space. You can then stack them inside your sock drawer.
While organizing the sock drawer takes some effort and cleverness, if you are willing to spend some time on it, you can give your drawer a neatness makeover. Once you do, you will be amazed by how much easier it is to find the socks or tights you need in the morning. On top of that, your sock drawer will be a lot less of an eyesore!
