It’s finally springtime, and summer is coming up fast. Is it starting to warm up outside where you are? If so, it is the perfect time to tackle those outdoor cleaning and organizing tasks you haven’t been able to take care of over the winter. It’s a good idea to get them out of the way before the weather really heats up for the summer. Plus, the sooner you take care of your outdoor organizing tasks, the sooner you can start enjoying gardening and other spring and summer hobbies. Here are some outdoor organizing ideas:
• Organize your storage shed. If you have an outdoor shed where you keep the overflow that doesn’t fit inside your home, this is the perfect time of year to take everything out, decide what to keep and what to donate, and put the rest back again. This is a storage area which can easily be ignored for months or even years on end. It’s a big task, but you’ll feel a lot better when it is done. In fact, it makes a great starting point, because you may very well need to use the space you free up to store overflow from other areas in your house and yard.
• Organize your garden shed or tool shed. If you have a separate shed or maybe even an outdoor workshop, this is an ideal time of year to go through it and get everything sorted. The easier it is to locate the tools, seeds, and other supplies you need, the more fun your gardening and DIY projects will be this year.
• Organize pool stuff. Have your own backyard swimming pool? This is a great time of year to get that area neat and tidy, and organize pool toys.
• Organize sports equipment in your garage or mudroom. Like the pool equipment, this is something that is great to have organized before summer, especially since the kids will be home from school. Having an organizational system in place before the kids start playing will help keep things tidy.
• Organize your garage. Your garage probably is not climate-controlled, so this may be another organizational task that you have been putting off over the colder months. Your garage can get quite hot over the summer, so now is the time to take care of it. If your garage is really messy, consider tackling just one area. Anything at all that you can do will help.
When you get these outdoor areas organized, you make it easy to find what you need, which will allow you to focus on your DIY projects, maintain your lawn, grow your garden, or enjoy your poolside or sports and games with your kids. Get some large plastic bins to gather up all the stuff you no longer want or need, and donate it to the thrift store so that somebody else can use it. Get some smaller plastic boxes to help you organize the tools and toys you do decide to keep.
