Typically, the garage is one of the most cluttered areas of the home. It tends to be where we stockpile everything that hasn’t found a home elsewhere in the household, and it also tends to be a multi-use area. Add to that the fact that most garages are unfinished, and it’s easy to understand why the garage tends to be a mess. Looking for some great ways to organize your garage in no time? Here are some easy tips to organize your garage for good.
1. If you have sports balls in your garage, the best way to keep them tidy and accessible is by placing them inside a niche in your wall, and then installing bungee cords to keep them contained. They won’t roll around anymore, but you can reach any of them without digging around! One you try this for yourself, you will probably think of a lot of clever uses for bungee cords.
2. Color code your garage storage systems. Paint each section of your wall with a different color to denote a different function. The yard tools area can be blue, the recycling area can be green, sports equipment can be red, and so on. You can find what you need straight away using this system. It also turns the garage into a more colorful place. Painting the walls can also be a fun family project; everyone can choose a color!
3. Hang a pegboard storage system. Grab a permanent marker and draw outlines around your tools after you hang them. When you pull them off again, you can see where they belong. So can anybody else who uses them. No more worrying about other people misplacing your tools!
4. Install better lighting in your garage. One of the reasons that garages look and feel messy is because they typically come with very poor lighting installed (or no lighting installed). Get some nice bright lights installed overhead that light up the entire space. It will instantly look better, and you will be able to see where you put stuff so much faster.
5. Install a magnetic strip on your wall or on the side of a cabinet. You can use this strip to store metallic tools. Get a robust strip with a strong magnet if you are thinking of storing some of your larger, heavier tools. This system works really well for getting things out of the way, but still making it easy to grab what you need at a moment’s notice.
These quick garage storage ideas and tricks will make a huge difference when it comes to cleaning up and getting organized! Once you have a tidy garage, it is easier to park your car and work on your hardware and yard projects. The garage also becomes a neater more pleasant place to spend time.
