Whether you have a large, spacious kitchen complete with an island or a tiny one crammed into a cramped little studio apartment, there is one thing that every cook can agree on, and that is that there can never be too much space for preparing meals! These quick kitchen makeover ideas will help you to boost the space available to you, even if you are already working in a tight area.

• Use magnets to stick metallic items to your fridge. The side of the fridge is perfect for metal utensils. This gets them out of your drawers and off your countertops, but keeps them handy to grab at a moment’s notice. Plus, you get to feel proud of yourself when everyone who visits you comments on how clever your magnetic strip is. Just be sure to get a strong one so you can hang heavier utensils.

• Use plastic storage bins for drawers to divide your space and stay organized. Bins with lids work great for storing produce or even baked goods like loaves of fresh bread.

• Want to get your recipe clutter off your counters? Select a clear wall or the side of a cabinet which is in view while you are cooking, and paint it with chalkboard paint. Now you can write whichever recipes you are using directly on the wall, and you can put away the recipe cards.

• Set up tension rods inside your cabinets. They are handy for keeping other items where they belong, especially pots and pans and plates.

• Make sure that the plastic food containers you buy for leftovers are stackable bins. That way when you are not using them, you can stack them up in your cabinets and save space.

• Hang storage from your ceiling. Usually this is something that RV owners do, but you can make use of it in any kitchen. It is an especially great trick if you don’t have a lot of extra space. Hang overhead racks and get your pots and pans off your counters and out of your cupboards.

• Buy a cutting board that fits on top of your sink. This is like adding a whole section to your countertop. In fact, in very small kitchens, doing this can easily be a necessity. You may even find yourself doing the majority of your food preparation on it. And if anything drops through the cutting board while you are working, it lands conveniently in the sink, saving you from a complicated cleanup.

I hope you enjoyed these tips! Even though these kitchen storage ideas for small kitchens were designed with cramped spaces in mind, they will increase the capacity and comfort of a larger kitchen too. All of these are easy changes to make, and only take a matter of minutes to set up. Once you do, you will have a much easier time preparing food. You may even feel like you have given your kitchen a total makeover!
