Start out by organizing your paperwork, and also provide ways for students to sort their own paperwork. Provide plastic bins which students can use to turn in assignments so that they don’t get mixed up with the rest of your paperwork. Also keep lesson papers and materials sorted in colored storage boxes so you can quickly and easily find the materials for each lecture during the day.
If you don’t have the supplies which you need to organize your classroom, consider putting in a request for additional storage bins. If you already have access to school storage supplies like vertical stackable plastic bins, then utilize as much vertical space as you can. Stackable bins can be used on top of lower shelves to make use of more space and free up more room in your classroom. Try to stick with bins which have a consistent style to them, though you may want to use several different primary colors to denote materials pertaining to different subjects. Consistency in style will create a cleaner, more organized look and will reduce the feeling of chaos which can so easily permeate a classroom. You’ll also want to look for clear plastic boxes, since these show you immediately what is inside.
