You can purchase separate bins for each type of supply you have. One bin can be used for oil paints while another can be used for acrylics, which keeps you from mixing up your paints and using the wrong one on mistake. You can use another bin to store colored pencils, another for pastels, and another for charcoal. Other bins can be used for items like gloss and glaze. If you do work with paper, you can keep your paper in bins as well. This is particularly useful if your art involves origami and you don’t want those little squares of paper floating around the room.
One great way to organize art supplies is according to color. If for example you work with paints but you have many different shades of paint, you could sort first by the type of paint and then by the color of paint. So you could have a shelf for your oils, but a bin for blues, and another for reds. The same goes for beads, clay and other supplies which come in many different variations.
