This holiday season, maybe you have decided you no longer are up for exchanging traditional item-based gifts with friends and family. Perhaps you are working toward the goal of decluttering and minimalism, and maybe your loved ones are too. That does not mean you cannot give each other awesome gifts though!
In Part 1, I shared these clutter-free gift ideas:
• Gift certificates or money
• Subscriptions
• Home organizing supplies
• Activities
• Lessons
• Movies and TV shows
• Technology
Here are some more non-clutter gifts which are perfect for the holidays or any time of the year:
• Crafting supplies. Okay, to be fair, it is possible to have a lot of crafting clutter (I certainly do), but craft supplies can be used to create items to sell or gift, which may (in some cases) end up freeing up space over time.
• Tools. Necessary tools for around the home and yard do take up space, but as stated, they are necessary. Plus, they can sometimes be used in projects which ultimately end up tidying up a home.
• Food. Here is a timeless gift idea which will always be evergreen. Edible gifts like chocolate are a classic for the holidays, but they are also nice for other occasions as well. But that does make food a particularly good option for non-clutter Christmas gift ideas.
• Services. If you have good financial liquidity, it is easy to take for granted a simple service like a visit to a massage therapist or a hairdresser. But these can be a burden on a lot of peoples’ wallets. So purchasing someone a chance to enjoy one of these services can be an awesome clutter-free gift.
• Hygiene, bath, hair and makeup products. Like food, these items get used up, and do not sit around creating lifelong clutter. Most people can use more of any or all of them as well, and may especially appreciate if you go the extra mile to purchase something luxurious which may be outside their usual budget. Even just a nice bar of handcrafted soap can make an excellent choice.
• Outdoor plants. Indoor plants may clutter up a house that already has too little space, but a lot of folks have some extra room in their yards, and will enjoy planting flowers to beautify their gardens.
• Donate to a cause. If you know a charitable cause that your friend or family member is passionate about, consider placing a donation in his or her name.
• Share a fun day out. Consider planning a special outing with a loved one. Come up with a set of experiences which you can both enjoy and which will bring you closer together. The gift then becomes not just the activities, but also a strengthening of your bond.
All of these ideas prove that giving gifts doesn’t have to lead to possessions piling up and clutter accumulating. There are so many other intangible ways you can share value and cheer this holiday season and throughout the year.
