Makeup is great for beautifying your face, but not so much for beautifying your dresser drawer, your closet, or your bathroom counter. In fact, you really only need a small assortment to make a mess. Just a few lip gloss tubes and a handful of eyeshadow colors can easily get mixed together, making it hard to find what you actually want to use. And it is so easy for lipstick to roll out of sight completely!
How to Organize Your Makeup Drawer
Whether you are trying to figure out how to organize makeup in a small bathroom or in your bedroom, here are a few ideas:
• Use a jar or can or cup for your brushes. Seriously, it is so annoying when those bristles get messed up. You can never really get them to behave again, can you? Put them handle-down in a cup and you will keep them from getting damaged. A cool trick is to fill the container with coffee beans, dry beans, small beads, or something else which easily gives way. You can put the brushes in or take them out easily, but they are held in place neatly!
• Divide and conquer. One of the best ways to organize makeup is by using dividers. You can do this by getting one large plastic bin with dividers or by getting a number of small plastic bins in different shapes and sizes. How you divide your makeup is up to you, but it usually works best to sort by type. All your eyeshadow goes in one bin or compartment, all your lip gloss and lipstick goes in another, all your eyeliner goes in a third, all your blush in a fourth, and so on.
• Organize large palettes with a magazine rack. If you have big palettes of eyeshadow and the like, just stick them upright in a magazine rack! This is a great way to free up counter and drawer space, since you are storing them vertically.
• Magnetize frequently used items. Have a little free wall space? This is one of the coolest ideas for organizing makeup! If there are eyeshadow and blush containers you need to grab regularly, glue a magnet to the back of each, and then put a magnetic board on your wall next to your dresser or bathroom mirror. Stick your magnetized makeup items to the wall, and if you want, organize them according to type or color or use. You will instantly be able to see and grab whatever you want to use! Genius!
Makeup is hard to get organized and even harder to keep organized, but if you combine these ideas, you should find it a lot easier to reduce clutter and keep containers from getting lost. Even if you only have a small collection, it is so worth it to take the effort. It will speed up your morning routine, and make it much faster to find whatever you need to look your best!
